Easter Thoughts All Year 'Round

...and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.
- I Corinthians 15:14

He is risen! Risen...indeed!

And what's that supposed to mean to me?
I live each day as best I can;
I reach out to my fellowman.
I sometimes slip
I sometimes sin
But I always get up and try again!
I read my Bible;
I know how to pray.
I try to walk the Christian way.
I know God cares
And I believe He sees
That the only desire of my heart is to please.
So He is risen! Risen...indeed?
Tell me--what difference does that make to me?

Well, it's very plain it means nothing to you

For I see your hand in all you do.

He could still be dead and bound in the grave

He would not have lost His power to save.

But don't you see? Can't you comprehend?

The tomb was the beginning--not the end.

His death was not all He had to give--

He arose that we might have the power to live!

He is risen! He is risen indeed!
Now I see what that means to me!
It means that I died with Him that day
In some mysterious "God-planned" way;
That my hands are now His
My eyes truly see
My soul is made new
My heart is free.
The power to live is mine at last!
The days of striving and failing are past!
Praise God! At last the truth I see--

He is risen!

He lives!

He lives through me!

Excellence is doing the best

The Two Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes
Which God gave me to hold.

He said, “Put all your sorrows in the black,
And all your joys in the gold.”

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I store,

But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opened the black.
I wanted to find out why.

And I saw in the base of the box, a hole
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud,
“I wonder where all my sorrows could be.”

He smiled a gentle smile at me.
“My child, they’re all here, with Me.”

I asked, “God, why give me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?”

“My child, the gold is to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go.”

God can handle all our troubles and needs better than we can.
All that we must do is let them go, so that He can do His work.
Trust involves letting go and knowing God will catch you.

I've Learned

A Birth Certificate shows that we were born
A Death Certificate shows that we died
Pictures show that we lived!
Have a seat...Relax...And read this slowly.

I've Learned - by Kathy Kane Hansen

I've learned – that you cannot make someone love you.
All you can do is be someone who can be loved.
The rest is up to them.

I've learned – that no matter how much I care,
some people just don't care back.

I've learned – that it takes years to build up trust,
and only seconds to destroy it.

I've learned – that it's not what you have in your life
but who you have in your life that counts.

I've learned – that you can get by on charm
for about fifteen minutes.
After that, you'd better know something.

I've learned – that you shouldn't compare
yourself to the best others can do,
but to the best you can do.

I've learned – that it's not what happens to people
that’s important. It's what they do about it.

I've learned – that you can do something in an instant
that will give you heartache for life.

I've learned – that no matter how thin you slice it,
there are always two sides.

I've learned – that it's taking me a long time
to become the person I want to be.

I've learned – that it's a lot easier
to react than it is to think.

I've learned – that you should always leave
loved ones with loving words.
It may be the last time you see them.

I've learned – that you can keep going
long after you think you can't.

I've learned – that we are responsible for what we do,
no matter how we feel.

I've learned – that either you control your attitude
or it controls you.

I've learned – that regardless of how hot and steamy
a relationship is at first,
the passion fades and there had better be
something else to take its place.

I've learned – that heroes are the people
who do what has to be done when it needs to be done,
regardless of the consequences.

I've learned – that learning to forgive takes practice.

I've learned – that there are people who love you dearly,
but just don't know how to show it.

I've learned – that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I've learned – that my best friend and I can do anything
or nothing and have the best time.

I've learned – that sometimes the people you expect
to kick you when you're down
will be the ones to help you get back up.

I've learned – that sometimes when I'm angry
I have the right to be angry,
but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I've learned – that true friendship continues to grow,
even over the longest distance.
The same goes for true love.

I've learned – that just because someone
doesn't love you the way you want them to
doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

I've learned – that maturity has more to do with
what types of experiences you've had,
and what you've learned from them,
and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I've learned – that you should never tell a child
their dreams are unlikely or outlandish.
Few things are more humiliating,
and what a tragedy it would be if they believed it.

I've learned – that your family won't always be there for you.
It may seem funny, but people you aren't related to
can take care of you and love you and teach you to trust people again.
Families aren't biological.

I've learned – that no matter how good a friend is,
they're going to hurt you every once in a while
and you must forgive them for that.

I've learned – that it isn't always enough
to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes you have to learn
to forgive yourself.

I've learned – that no matter how bad your heart is broken
the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I've learned – that our background and circumstances
may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned – that sometimes when my friends fight,
I'm forced to choose sides even when I don't want to.

I've learned – that just because two people argue,
it doesn't mean they don't love each other
And just because they don't argue,
it doesn't mean they do.

I've learned – that sometimes you have to put
the individual ahead of their actions.

I've learned – that we don't have to change friends
if we understand that friends change.

I've learned – that you shouldn't be so
eager to find out a secret.
It could change your life forever.

I've learned – that two people can look
at the exact same thing
and see something totally different.

I've learned – that no matter how you try to protect
your children, they will eventually get hurt
and you will hurt in the process.

I've learned – that there are many ways of falling
and staying in love.

I've learned – that no matter the consequences,
those who are honest with themselves
get farther in life.

I've learned – that no matter how many friends you have,
if you are their pillar you will feel lonely
and lost at the times you need them most.

I've learned – that your life can be changed
in a matter of hours
by people who don't even know you.

I've learned – that even when you think
you have no more to give,
when a friend cries out to you,
you will find the strength to help.

I've learned – that writing, as well as talking,
can ease emotional pains.

I've learned – that the paradigm we live in
is not all that is offered to us.

I've learned – that credentials on the wall
do not make you a decent human being.

I've learned – that the people you care most about in life
are taken from you too soon.

I've learned – that although the word "love"
can have many different meanings,
it loses value when overly used.

I've learned – that it's hard to determine
where to draw the line between being nice and
not hurting people's feelings
and standing up for what you believe.

I've learned – that the happiest of people
don't necessarily have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything.

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when you ask "How are you?", do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a friendship die,
cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
it's like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life is not a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before the song is over.

Your Best Foot Forward

Which sounds longer to you 569,400 hours or 65 years? They are exactly the same in length of time.

The average man spends his first eighteen years - 157,000 hours - getting an education. That leaves him 412,000 hours from age 18 to 65.

Eight hours of every day are spent in sleeping; eight hours in eating and recreation. So there is left eight hours to work each day.

One third of 412,000 hours is 134,000 hours - the number of hours a man has in which to work between the age of 18 and 65. Expressed in hours it doesn't seem a very long time, does it?

Now I am not recommending that you tick off the hours that you worked, 134,000, 133,999,133,998, etc., but I do suggest that whatever you do, you do it with all that you have in you.

If you are sleeping, sleep well.
If you are playing, play well.
If you are working, give the best that is in you, remembering that in the last analysis the real satisfaction in life comes not from money and things, but from the realization of a job well done.

Therein lies the difference between the journeyman worker and a real craftsman.

Be Enterprising

An enterprising person is one who comes across a pile of scrap metal and sees the making of a wonderful sculpture. An enterprising person is one who drives through an old decrepit part of town and sees a new housing development. An enterprising person is one who sees opportunity in all areas of life.

To be enterprising is to keep your eyes open and your mind active. It's to be skilled enough, confident enough, creative enough and disciplined enough to seize opportunities that present themselves…regardless of the economy.

A person with an enterprising attitude says, "Find out what you can before action is taken." Do your homework. Do the research. Be prepared. Be resourceful. Do all you can in preparation of what's to come.

Enterprising people always see the future in the present. Enterprising people always find a way to take advantage of a situation, not be burdened by it. And enterprising people aren't lazy. They don't wait for opportunities to come to them, they go after the opportunities. Enterprise means always finding a way to keep yourself actively working toward your ambition.

Enterprise is two things. The first is creativity. You need creativity to see what's out there and to shape it to your advantage. You need creativity to look at the world a little differently. You need creativity to take a different approach, to be different.

What goes hand-in-hand with the creativity of enterprise is the second requirement: the courage to be creative. You need courage to see things differently, courage to go against the crowd, courage to take a different approach, courage to stand alone if you have to, courage to choose activity over inactivity.

And lastly, being enterprising doesn't just relate to the ability to make money. Being enterprising also means feeling good enough about yourself, having enough self worth to want to seek advantages and opportunities that will make a difference in your future. And by doing so you will increase your confidence, your courage, your creativity and your self-worth—your enterprising nature.

Imagine Life as a Game

30 second speech by Bryan Dyson - Former CEO of Coca Cola

"Imagine life as a game in which you’re juggling some five balls in the air. They are work, family, health, friends & spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air.

You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls — family, health, friends and spirit — are made of glass.

If you drop one of these; they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life."

Value has a value only if its value is valued.

"Do you expect your future to be bright?

Are you willing to dream king-sized dreams...and are you willing to work diligently to make those dreams happen?

Hopefully so - after all God promises that we can do 'all things' through Him.

Yet most of us live far below our potential. We take half measures; we dream small dreams; we waste precious time and energy on the distractions of the world. But God has other plans for us.

You and your loved ones possess great potential, potential that you must use or forfeit. And the time to fulfil that potential is now.

If you want to reach your potential, you need to add a strong work ethic to your talent."
